Ask any Rage Dancer and she'll tell you...its not as easy as it looks. The first question everyone asks me when they find out that I dance for the Grand Rapids Rampage Rage Dance Team is if being a dancer takes up a lot of time. My answer...YES!
Here is a quick glimpse into our involvement as a Rage Dancer:
Before our mandatory three-hour practice on Wednesday night and our mandatory four-hour practice on Sunday, many of us find ourselves pushing the coffee table out of the living room to practice our routines on our own time. It is understood that each dancer arrives to practice with knowledge of the routines taught and is able to execute the dance. It is very common to arrive to practice a half hour early to find other dancers meeting to review before practice officially begins.
Once the season begins the Rampage Office schedules many appearances for us to attend. An appearance can be anything from participating in fund raising events, visiting sponsors, attending grand openings or reading at local schools, to name a few. We all stay very involved in community events and these appearances can keep us busy all week if our schedules permit.
As a Rage Dancer we are also required to stay healthy. As athletes we have to stay fit, we find ourselves hitting the gym and staying active, which can also become time consuming.
On game days the dance team is required to be on the field 4 hours prior to kick off so that we can review our routines. We fill the rest of the time with quick appearances, promotions and primping before kickoff.
So is all that time and dedication worth it? My answer...YES! Ask any Rage Dancer and she'll tell you...it is worth every ounce of effort put into the team. There is nothing better than dancing in front of a full arena full of fans with music blasting any your teammates by your side.
We are looking forward to supporting the football team and giving a great performance to the fans!
